Trip report – August 16-17, 2025

Completed:

  • Power – Edison commercial power finally back since the fire; Edison temporary generators removed.
  • RLC Controller reprogram –
    • Major overhaul of 1,000+ line config script.
    • Fixed remote access.
    • New tones – for 220, 440 and ID (Key of C minor – C5–E♭5–G5). 2m remains the Daren Rumas memorial drip.
    • Lowered volume of courtesy tones and ID (physical circuit board adjustment).
  • Dell server swap – power control BIOS fix, pre-install newest Debian Linux, Allstar/Asterisk VoIP.
  • Henry 2m amp swap – RF power out of spec. Swapped in sister #2 refurbed by Henry Radio.
  • Ethernet hub – replacement racked and cabling upgrade/cleanup.
  • USB hub – replaced, cabling cleanup.
  • Battery Back-up implementation had failed; torqued things down; tested battery tenders; telemetry shows batteries holding steady at 26.4v to the 1kW inverter.

Open Items:

  • 2m intermod trace.
  • 2m and 220/440 antennas relocation for more height and separation from the tower.
  • 2m RX sensitivity.
  • RLC controller – new #2 if onsite audio level tuning available.
  • Occasional 2m TX down ~45 sec.
  • Webcam swap-out.

Some things on the rack are a bit long in the tooth and needed/need to be updated. The initial install of the current Santiago repeater was July 9, 2014; 11 years ago; five people, one-day install (and a few 435 supporters on the hill.)
